Compassion In World Farming

Today I had the great pleasure of collecting and spreading information for Compassion In World Faming ( ciwf.org ).

Since it's conception in the 1970's CIWF has made great strides in the improvement and campaigning against the conditions the animals used for food are kept in.

In 1999 their campaign to ban barren battery cages prompted the EU to agree to phase them out by 2012.

Also following a 10 year campaign the EU finally recognised, in 1997, that animals are sentient beings: able to experience and suffer pain.

And the campaign against the veal create resulted in this system being banned in the UK in 1990 and across the EU in 2007.

But there is so much more to do.

If you care about what you eat and the suffering of sentient beings...please help, and contact supporters@ciwf.org today or call 01483 521 953 (UK) and help end the long and tragic tradition of Barren Caged hens of which there are 5 BILLION and 50 BILLION we want out of dark, crammed and smelly sheds.

End the deeply distressing live export and long distance journeys that millions of animals are forced to endure (many die en route and many others suffer from dehydration and injury) just to be slaughtered on arrival.

You can help us change the world for the better.

Namaste, Metta and Peace,

Richard

Why I do what I do

Greetings again my friends,

I was asked recently why I do all the things I do, and I'm often asked (by people with bewildered expressions and whom often shake their heads at the reply) why I give up so much time to volunteer projects or why I work for free on some humanist based futuretech design projects.

Basically it comes down to this...One thing I truly enjoyed about studying as a monk of varying traditions and religions was that I was a Brother to all and a master to none...what an inspiration this was to me and it is something I've tried to retain here in the real world.

I have no interest in being a Master, Judge, Lord or any other label of leadership....I have no super or Supernatural powers, I'm not a healer, Psychic, medium or saint, I am just a man.

Through my actions I'm trying to show what it is possible for us mere mortals to do to improve our greater global communities, to bring peace and understanding to world and the environment around us through engaged and positive actions.

I believe we all have within us the ability to create Great, long lasting and global change in the world through our actions of kindness, Charity and Compassion and by growing a mind of understanding, Gentleness and Sympathy.

As John Wesley once said

"Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can."

This mixed with the 5 precepts of Buddhism,

1. Abstain from Killing any living Being.
2. Abstain from taking what is not given.
3. Abstain from harmful sexual behaviour.
4. Abstain from Lying and false speech.
5. Abstain from the harmful consumption of Intoxicants and Drugs

should become our Humanist Creed, by which we can all follow to build what could be a truly Global and wondrous communities.

I have geat faith in our abilities as mere mortals to grow as a species and I look forward to seeing what the future brings, all it takes is for us normal people to try.

Namaste, Metta and Peace.

The Meaning of Life

The Meaning of life, is to lead a meaningful life.

Why do we exist?? Is there a God?? What is the point of it all?? these are all questions that we cannot answer at our current level of technology, so perhaps we should look at things differently.

What If there is NO point to life? does this mean we just flap around like headless chickens clucking about the pointlessness of existence....Or we can just give our life it's own meaning.

Everytime we make a choice in life we effect the greater global community in one of three ways.

1) Positive - In this case the world and community is a better place because your in it.

2) Neutral - You have made no impact to the world or the community.

3) Negative - The world is a worse place, and the greater global community has been damaged or hurt because of your actions.

So aim for the positive in everything you doin life. be generous, charitable, compassionate and kind to all sentient beings.

As Gandhi said " Be the change you want to see in the world"

In the end the world is what we make it, and wether you believe in God, Reincarnation or Humanism you only get one shot here as you...Try and make a difference....Lead by example.

Namaste, Metta and peace to you all,

The RAGMAN.
